An Evening of Heroes
Under the musical direction of Jon Penton, the programme was thoughtfully linked by the theme of heroes in all their forms. From legendary warriors and fearless adventurers to beloved animated characters and everyday heroes, the music took the audience on a memorable journey through some of the most iconic film scores ever written.
The concert opened with the energy and excitement of The Final Countdown, setting the scene for an evening full of adventure, emotion and nostalgia. From the swashbuckling action of Pirates of the Caribbean and the epic grandeur of Gladiator, to the magic of Beauty and the Beast, the humour of Chicken Run, and favourites from Toy Story and The Lion King, there was something to delight audiences of all ages. The evening concluded in spectacular style with Bohemian Rhapsody, bringing the concert to a rousing finish.
Solo Highlights
One of the special moments of the evening was the opportunity to showcase the talents of four of our own band members.
Lisa opened the sequence of solos with a beautifully expressive performance of First Light on cornet, bringing a moment of quiet reflection to the programme. A heartfelt rendition of Gabriel’s Oboe by Ian on euphonium followed, before Mel performed The Seal Lullaby on flugel horn with warmth and sensitivity. Simon then brought the sequence to a fitting close with a moving interpretation of Somewhere Over the Rainbow on tenor horn.
Each solo brought its own unique character to the evening, highlighting the wonderful musicianship within Ibstock Brick Brass and receiving warm appreciation from the audience.

A Fond Farewell
As the final notes of Bohemian Rhapsody faded away, the evening also marked the end of an era for Ibstock Brick Brass, as we said farewell to our EEb bass player, John Bailey, following his final concert with the band.
John has been a valued member of Ibstock Brick Brass, and we thank him for his friendship, commitment and contribution over the years. We wish him every happiness and success for the future and hope he’ll always know that he’ll be welcome back whenever he feels like paying us a visit.
